Why Dakota

DAKOTA is a growing company
with big ambitions.

Our brand has heart and soul, our team has personality and passion, and we combine them to deliver sincere service.

At Dakota, we believe in doing the simple thing brilliantly. Hospitality should not be difficult. It should be natural. It should be fun.

Why the name, DAKOTA?

The Dakota aircraft changed the face of air travel in the ‘30’s and today it encapsulates the spirit behind the DAKOTA brand. Air travel, once a privilege of the rich elite was revolutionised by this aircraft by offering luxury service and stylish accommodation to all.

This concept applies today to the DAKOTA brand. We drive ourselves to provide guests with a unique experience based on the principles of style, and exceptional service to exceed all expectations.

Chefs

The Heart & Soul of DAKOTA is our Bar & Grill.
Our immaculate and state of the art Kitchens
are filled with teams of passionate craftsmen.

We run our kitchens from the chopping board, not the clipboard, allowing seasonal ingredients to shape our menu and adopting cooking techniques to showcase the best produce available.

The Grill at DAKOTA dispels the notion that luxurious hotels and fantastic dining experiences have to be pretentious or traditional. Dakota’s ‘old-school’ formality combined with a ‘new school’ edge brings great style and creates a bustling and vibrant atmosphere.

An environment to learn and create

We offer Chef Apprenticeships to individuals passionate about cooking, even with little previous experience. Everything is made in house, providing ample opportunity to prepare produce to the highest standard.

Your on-the-job training will include using classic cooking techniques to create dishes, all whilst keeping a safe and hygienic working environment and ensuring the strictest levels of food safety.

Development Programs

At DAKOTA, the only limit to your
success is your own drive.

The Operational Development Program was created for people
passionate about food and beverage as a means to accelerate
the careers of talented and ambitious individuals.

Our 12 month schedule focuses on building knowledge by working
within the bar and grill, invests in service-focused internal and
external training, as well as leadership skills.

We are dedicated to developing individuals with personality
and ambition, irrespective of age or experience. Show us
your personality, demonstrate your enthusiasm for working
in a team, and prove your leadership skills.

You don’t have to have chosen the academic route,
if you’ve found your calling in hospitality with over two
years’ experience, then apply.

If you are committed to a career in hospitality and have at
least two years’ experience working in food and beverage,
please apply with a cover letter and CV.

Student Opportunities

“It’s not what we do, it’s the way that we do it;
believers not employees.”

KEN McCULLOCH ~ FOUNDER OF DAKOTA,
AND CHAIRMAN & HONORARY DOCTOR OF

“I joined Dakota Edinburgh in March 2013 for a summer internship to gain experience in both the Grill and Reception before attaining a part-time role when I went back to university, which was very flexible throughout my studies. I was then offered a position on the Development Program which resulted in me becoming the Assistant Restaurant Manager in Dakota Deluxe Glasgow in early 2016.

Since then, I gained experience in HR and become a Duty Manager in Dakota Deluxe Leeds, before being promoted to Deputy Operations Manager in by returning to Glasgow in early 2018. My entire career has been built at Dakota and I’ve seized every opportunity given to me here.”

JASMINE BRASH BA (HONS) INTERNATIONAL HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT, QUEEN MARGARET UNIVERSITY

We offer student internships offering working experience based in the bar, grill, or housekeeping a minimum of 12 weeks.

If you aspire to gain experience at the highest standards of service, please apply by sending us your covering letter and CV.

Apply

If you are looking for a job that requires no effort,
simply for some extra money – keep looking.

If you are looking for a comfortable, slow-paced
role in an organisation that doesn’t expect
much from you – keep looking.

If you are seeking an opportunity to become part
of a successful and growing company with a culture
of teamwork and internal promotions,
we’d like to hear from you.

We attract individuals who are perfectionists
and like to do the simple things brilliantly. Therefore, applications which are dull, grammatically inaccurate, badly presented, misspelt will be disregarded. We also like applicants with a sense of humour.

“Good service isn’t a mystery,
we employ nice people.”

KEN McCULLOCH ~ FOUNDER OF DAKOTA.
